Level One: Start the Book
Have an idea but don’t know where to start? Feeling discouraged or stuck? Looking to restart a stalled project?
The Level One: Start the Book course is ideal for writers of all levels who want to get words on paper, learn how to give (and receive) useful criticism, and become better at revising their work. If you’ve never taken a course with us before, we recommend starting here. No formal writing experience is necessary.
The Level One course combines five weekly online workshops, three individual conferences, and personalized critiques from Leigh and classmates. The goal is to write 50 pages of polished prose by the end of the course. Along the way, you’ll gain literary wisdom about worldbuilding, the publishing market today, and how to write proposals and query letters. You’ll hone your skills, get your writing on track, and make writing part of your life. Plus, join a supportive, enthusiastic community of fellow writers!
“Leigh’s support and guidance were instrumental in shaping my story to be the best it could be. If you’re looking for a small community of writers and an expert teacher to push your writing to the next level, I can’t recommend this class enough!” Rae Bowman |
Level Two: Conquer the Book
The end is attainable. Level Two: Conquer the Book will help you work toward a finished piece and transform your writing into polished prose. Students often take this course after completing our Level One course, but taking Level One first is not required. For new students (or students who need a refresher), we’ll offer you an introductory class the week before class starts to catch up on workshopping and editing techniques, and then you can jump right into workshopping.
Level Two is a fast-paced 12-week online workshop to help you sprint through the rest of your book, filled with multiple individual conferences and personalized critiques. You’ll learn how to create compelling characters, drive your plot forward, use worldbuilding techniques to enhance your story, and build toward an ending that is strong and believable.
In each class session, several pieces will receive insightful feedback from fellow writers. Feedback will conclude with a longer, in-depth critique from Leigh. Level Two will help you work toward finishing the book you’ve always wanted to write, with a community of fellow writers to keep you on track along the way.
